The Crone Goddess  is the last aspect of the triple goddess, together with the mother and maiden she represents the circle of life. In today's society we worship beauty and youth so much that we find this aspect of the goddess frightening and ugly. However the dark side of the goddess is where the deepest power is found. The reason she is presumed ugly is to keep the uninitiated away from her wisdom. The word crone comes from the word crown, which represents wisdom that comes from the crown chakra. 
 
During winter time we work on shedding what no longer serves us and embrace the energy of change and transformation. The crone goddess exists just for that reason.
